Infrared Light Can Restore Eyesight
Aaron Lutze - Thursday, June 18, 2009
The research suggests that infrared light could one day be used to treat some forms of vision loss.
Researchers at The Vision Centre have discovered compelling evidence that infrared light can reduce the severe damage caused to eyesight by exposure to bright light.
Their world-first finding opens the possibility for one day successfully and painlessly treating some forms of vision loss caused by overexposure to sunlight or artificial light.

Light therapy tackles eye injuries
People blinded by light could be treated with more light. Researchers have found that shining near-infrared radiation on damaged retinal cells can keep them alive and prevent permanent blindness.
If the infrared technique works in people, it could be used to treat a wide range of eye injuries and diseases. And it does not stop there.
Other studies have shown that infrared light can help heal all sorts of injuries and sores, and it is already being used to treat severe mouth ulcers in children undergoing chemotherapy.

LEDs may heal laser-damaged eyes
Shining near-infrared (NIR) radiation on damaged retinal cells can keep the cells alive and prevent permanent blindness in people whose eyes have been damaged by lasers, according to research funded by the U.S. Defense Advance Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The technique of using one kind of light to heal eyes damaged by another kind of light could be used to treat a wide range of eye injuries and diseases.
